It has been a few weeks since KTM Malaysia dropped a massive bombshell on the local motorcycling scene, and the dust has finally settled. If you were living under a rock last month, KTM Malaysia officially launched their highly anticipated 2026 KTM 390 range, introducing four distinct models to the local market: the KTM 390 Enduro R, KTM 390 SMC R, KTM 390 Adventure X, and the hardcore KTM 390 Adventure R.
Conspicuously absent from the lineup, however, was the new KTM 390 Duke, leaving the naked bike fans among us waiting just a little bit longer.

The Elephant in the Room: “Orange Blood: Back on Track”
The central theme for the launch was Orange Blood: Back on Track. For those who closely follow global motorcycle industry news, this was a very deliberate and transparent nod to KTM’s highly publicized financial crisis over the past year.
During his welcoming speech, Mr. Goi Seong Keng, KTM Malaysia’s National Marketing Manager, did not shy away from the issue. He openly admitted that the brand had hit a few “hiccups” recently, but firmly reassured the crowd that KTM is now back on track to excite riders globally, and most importantly, here in Malaysia.
First Impressions: Media Test Rides at Kev Advenduro Park
Following the official curtain-drop, KTM Malaysia invited attending media, KOLs, and members of the Kev Advenduro Park to gear up for an exclusive first ride.
While a few laps around a designated park aren’t enough for a full, definitive Malaysian Riders review (stay tuned for our upcoming in-depth video!), our initial impressions are highly positive. The bikes feel incredibly agile, and the updates across the chassis and electronics are immediately noticeable.

The Shock Factor: Premium Branding, Budget-Friendly Prices?
Historically, KTM has always prided itself on being a premium brand with a premium price tag to match. However, the biggest talking point coming out of this launch is the pricing structure. KTM has aggressively lowered the barrier to entry, making these bikes far more accessible than their predecessors.
To sweeten the deal and win back consumer confidence after their recent financial woes, KTM Malaysia is also bundling these models with a massive 4-year warranty period—a move that definitely layout peace of mind for future owners.
The 2026 KTM 390 Platform: What Do They Share?
While each bike looks and behaves differently, they all share a common DNA under the skin:
- The Heart: Powering the entire range is the newly updated 398.7cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder LC4c engine, pushing out 45 PS and 39 Nm of torque. However, KTM notes that each variant features a bespoke engine tune tailored to its specific riding discipline.
- Maintenance: In a win for practical daily riders, the service intervals across the entire platform are set at a very reasonable 10,000 km.
- The Backbone: All four models share the same main frame architecture (separate from the new 390 Duke), though KTM has altered the headstock angles on individual models to achieve different rake angles suited for street, supermoto, or dirt duties.
- Tech Upgrades: KTM Quickshifter+ is now a standard feature across the entire 390 range—no software expansion packs required.

The Showstopper: KTM 390 Adventure R (RM33,300)
Without a doubt, the star of the entire launch was the all-new KTM 390 Adventure R. Priced at an incredibly competitive RM33,300, this is the higher-spec, off-road-focused weapon that local dual-purpose enthusiasts have been begging for.
It takes only one glance to see that KTM’s design team leaned heavily into their Dakar-conquering 450 Rally bike for inspiration. With its tall stance, rally-inspired tower fairing, and robust hardware, it looks ready to tackle the hardest local trails straight out of the showroom floor.
We are currently arranging to get our hands on the 390 Adventure R and its siblings for a proper, real-world road test on Malaysian roads and trails. Keep your eyes locked onto Malaysian Riders for our full video review coming very soon!
