The second round of the 2026 PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (North) will go down as an instant CP150 classic. In a premier class known for its unforgiving, paint-trading nature, it was Md Haziq Md Fairues of IDEMITSU HONDA YAM RACING who ultimately emerged from the final-corner carnage to take a dramatic, emotional victory.

A Seven-Lap Game of Musical Chairs

From the moment the lights went out after the Super Pole shootout, the 150cc monsters blew the race wide open. Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin (PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA MAJU MOTOR) grabbed the holeshot, but the lead became a hot potato almost immediately. Md Fareez Afeez Abd Rahman (MOTUL YAMAHA YY PANG RACING TEAM) and Nazirul Izzat Md Bahauddin swarmed the rear wheel of the leader within the opening minutes.

By Lap 2, the slipstream battles took over. Md Amirul Ariff Musa (TAB SPORTS SCK HONDA RACING) spearheaded a massive lead group that included a charging Md Farish Hafiy Farid Sezli. The positions were changing so rapidly at the end of the back straight that predicting a podium became an impossible task.

CP150 Mid-Race Heat Check (Fastest Lap):
Muhammad Helmi Azman (TAB SPORTS SCK HONDA RACING) - 1'21.951s

The mid-race phase was pure, unadulterated Cub Prix madness:

  • Lap 3: Kasma fought back to the front under intense pressure from Amirul and Abdullah Qayyum A Razak.
  • Lap 4: Qayyum timed his slipstream perfectly to lead a five-bike freight train.
  • Laps 5 & 6: Helmi Azman clocked a blistering 1’21.951s lap time, trading paint with Hafiy and Qayyum at the front.
  • Lap 9 & 10: Md Muzakkir Mohamed (VOGE RACING TEAM) and Md Irfan Haykhal Amidi took turns leading an eight-rider pack, all within sniffing distance of the win.

Drama at the Death

As the final lap commenced, Irfan held the line ahead of Afizi, Nazirul, and Hafiy. It looked like a straight drag race to the flag between the established frontrunners.

Then, the final corner claimed its victims.

In a desperate bid for the podium, Azroy Hakeem Anuar (HONDA CASTROL POWER 1 YUZY RACING) and Amirul collided and went down. The resulting chaos forced the leading riders wide, opening the inside line like a parting of the Red Sea.

FINAL CP150 ROUND 2 PODIUM:
1. Md Haziq Md Fairues (IDEMITSU HONDA YAM RACING) - 15'23.122s
2. Md Iqbal Amri Abdul Malek (AHM MOTOR SPORTS KM+) - 15'23.128s (+0.006s)
3. Muhammad Helmi Azman (TAB SPORTS SCK HONDA RACING) - 15'23.165s (+0.043s)

Haziq, who had dropped back into the mid-pack earlier in the race, capitalised perfectly. He pinned the throttle to drag-race Md Iqbal Amri Abdul Malek to the line, taking the chequered flag by a mere 0.006 seconds! Helmi Azman crossed the line just a fraction behind to secure third.

“This was a completely unexpected race for me,” Haziq admitted post-race. “On the final lap, luck was on my side at the last corner when riders overshot. I saw only five riders ahead, and I knew it was my chance. A three-year wait without a win is finally over.”

Looking Ahead: Can Haziq Carry the Momentum to Jempol?

With Sepang now in the rearview mirror, the paddock is already shifting its focus to Round 3, scheduled to take place at the end of June 2026 in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan.

Going from the wide, sweeping, high-speed asphalt of Sepang to the tight, technical, and stop-and-go nature of the Jempol street circuit is going to be a massive culture shock for the CP150 machinery.

The big question on everyone’s lips: Can Haziq and the IDEMITSU HONDA YAM RACING squad replicate this form on a completely different track layout? Sepang proved that Haziq has the racecraft to survive a chaotic pack, but Jempol requires qualifying precision and elite defensive riding. With the Yamaha outfits of Maju Motor and YY Pang eager to redeem themselves after missing out on the top step, and Helmi Azman showing ominous pace, Round 3 is shaping up to be an absolute thriller.

Will Haziq kickstart a championship charge in Negeri Sembilan, or will the tight street circuit crown a completely new winner? Let us know your predictions in the comments below!

DEFENSIVE RIDING

“It doesn’t matter how good you are at riding a motorcycle, heck you could even be a GP rider. But you can’t control others on the road and there will always be that one dumbass that can potentially cause you lots of trouble. Stay safe, stay defensive and stay focused on your bike.”
